THE SET-UP

In an Uncorked Events first, this spectacular celebration of wine will be held on a weekend night – Friday, May 18th to be exact. A perfect evening to get together with friends in the elegance of this San Francisco landmark before summer starts and everyone goes their own way.

THE DRAMATIC SETTING
We are thrilled to bring the Uncorked community for the first time to the grandeur of the stunning Fairmont Hotel high above Nob Hill. The storied Venetian Room, where Tony Bennett first sang ‘I Left My Heart In San Francisco’, provides the perfect backdrop for these wines of distinct history and undeniable quality. What better way to end a week of work than by sampling over 125 of the finest wines from Spain and Portugal?

THE WINE
On the Spanish front, you will taste the bold and hearty reds of the Priorat and Ribera del Duero, the classic earthy reds from Rioja, sparkling cava from Penedès , as well as wines from up and coming regions like Jumilla, Toro, Rías Baixas and La Mancha. You will taste lots of Tempranillo – the legendary red grape of Spain, Monastrell (Mourvedre), Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha (Grenache), Carinena (Carignane), Albariño, Viura, along with an array of different styles of sherry.

When it comes to Portugal, you have probably tried their outstanding port – and you will try many on this evening. You may be less familiar with are their excellent non-port wines made from grapes like Alentejo, Bairrada, Vinho Verde and Alvarinho plus wines made from traditional port varietals like Touriga Nacional and Tinto Roriz. Tehre will also be a variety of Madeiras - the other great dessert wine of Portugal. 

THE EXTRAS
A live flamenco show from the famed Caminos Flamencos with dancers, singers and guitarists will perfectly complement the wines, while DJ Sol will spin flamenco-inspired grooves with a healthy dose of Spanish and Portuguese pop. Smartwater will also be on hand keeping you hydrated. And we'll keep the evening going with an unofficial after party at the legendary Tonga Room next door.

THE BOTTOM LINE
When a wine is extraordinary, Spaniards say “Beber este vino es como hablar con Dios” or “Tasting this wine is like talking with God”. We think you may just might concur by the end of the evening.

THE VIP OPTION
This year we’re adding a VIP preview entry option to enter a full hour before the main event starts with exclusive access to rare library and extremely limited production reserve wines at each of the tables during this time.
